At The Oaks Montessori Nursery School we endeavour to ensure
that your child will develop a well rounded, confident personality
thus, using the Montessori method, provide him with sound
social and academic roots.
The Montessori method consists of five main areas: Practical
Life, The Senses, Mathematics, Language and Culture.
Practical Life exercises focus
on process rather than product. For example, your child will
learn how to dress himself and how to set and clear a table.
Your child will learn through observation and repetition
of a task. These are the first exercises to which your child
will be introduced. They are designed to foster and develop
independence, concentration, intelligence, dexterity, co-ordination,
positive social skills, a sense of order and self-control.
Movement is an important part of this learning, so each child
will be encouraged to use his surrounding environment to
explore the exercises available.
Sensorial Education focuses on refining the use of all the
senses. Your child will learn through a series of impressions
and sensations, all kept separate so as to focus on one specific
sense at a time. Your child will learn to discriminate between
the impressions and sensations and form opinions and ideas
about the world around him.
Mathematics is not only about numbers,
but also develops an understanding of measurement. The
Montessori exercises will help to develop an understanding
of this concept and other mathematical aspects. The exercises
will move from the concrete to the abstract in line with
your child’s
grasp of quantity and numeric symbols.
